Curvature Comb / Jacob Rus / Observable
A “curvature comb” is a type of graphical diagram added to the plot of a curve
which shows a number of “teeth” segments with their bases along the curve, oriented
perpendicular to the curve and proportional in length to its curvature. Personally I find it is easier to interpret a solid curve vs. a collection
of line segments. But eventually I might also add a more traditional
comblike display. I apply a sigmoid function (here, an arctangent) to the curvature so that even
for very extremely sharply kinked cu
